The final week in December usually means one thing for local basketball fans: It’s time for the annual CS Bank Holiday Hoops Tournament at Berryville’s Bobcat Arena. And it’s that time again, as the 13th edition of the tournament will tip off Wednesday at the arena.
It’s practically unheard of for two players to account for all of one team’s scoring in a high school basketball game, but that’s what happened when the Eureka Springs Highlanders hosted Life Way Christian on Dec. 13 at Highlander Arena.
Both the Green Forest Tigers and Lady Tigers will be in action this week in the 48th annual North Arkansas College Invitational Tournament in Harrison. Green Forest’s boys, who are seeded 12th in the 17-team boys division, will play fifth-seeded Mountain View at 4:40 p.m.
The Eureka Springs Highlander Mountain Bike Team wrapped up its second season with a fifth-place overall finish at Centennial Park in Fayetteville, beating much teams from larger schools like Bentonville West, Fayetteville Composite and Russellville.
Depth might be an issue for the Berryville wrestling team, but coach Ryan Whetham said there’s no shortage of talent or work ethic on the Bobcats’ roster. “We’ve got a bunch of new, young kids, ninth-graders and a few 10th-graders that have never wrestled before, and that’s good for our future,” Whetham said.
Playing without their senior point guard, against probably the best Class 4A team in the state, the odds were stacked against the Berryville Bobcats last Friday night at Bobcat Arena. And the odds held, as a talented Farmington team beat Berryville 68-28 in the 4A-1 conference opener for both teams.
The Berryville Bobcats took home the first-place trophy from the annual Green Forest Holiday Tournament after beating the host team 60-44 in the championship game on Saturday, Dec. 10.
