  • SWEPCO withdraws application for high-voltage line (Local News ~ 12/30/14)
    In a surprising turn of events, Southwestern Electric Power Co. on Tuesday afternoon withdrew its application to construct a high-voltage power line that would have run through the heart of Carroll County. In a news release, SWEPCO said its decision to withdraw its application to the Arkansas Public Service Commission came after the company was notified by the Southwest Power Pool that the project was no longer necessary, based "on updated forecasts that show significantly lower electric demand than prior forecasts ...". ...

    Ella Ruth Allred, age 75, of Berryville, formally of Green Forest, AR passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014. She was born Nov. 3, 1939 in Cheyenne, WY, daughter of James Waco Allred and Artie Ruth (Deweese) Allred. Ella graduated from Green Forest High School. She worked as custodian at Automatic Dye Casting in Green Forest for a number of years. She enjoyed cooking, reading and crocheting. Ella was an animal enthusiast and especially loved spending time caring for her cats...
