Regardless of what happens Friday night, the Green Forest Tigers are going to the playoffs. After losing three straight games, however, the Tigers are in search of any momentum they can find. They hope to regain that momentum when Elkins comes to Tiger Stadium. Green Forest (3-6, 3-3) and Elkins (3-6, 3-3) have identical records and will be playing for the fourth seed in 3A-1. Area cross country teams are getting ready to compete at the state meet Saturday in Hot Springs. The Berryville boys are scheduled to start first at 9 a.m., followed by the girls at 9:30 a.m. Coach Andrew Killingsworth said his team is prepared. The Berryville City Council discussed the holiday trash pickup schedule at its meeting Tuesday, Nov. 4. Former Green Forest alderman dies in Benton County accident

Mike Miller, a former Green Forest alderman and a candidate for Carroll County District 8 Justice of the Peace, was killed in a one-vehicle accident Monday on Highway 62 in Benton County. According to an Arkansas State Police report, Miller was driving a 2003 Chevrolet eastbound on Highway 62 two miles east of Garfield when he failed to negotiate a curve. Miller's vehicle then left the roadway and struck an embankment, the report said...

Carroll County will have a new sheriff on Jan. 1. Democrat Randy Mayfield, a Berryville police officer, defeated Sheriff Bob Grudek, a Republican, by a margin of nearly 23 percent in Tuesday's general election. Final but unofficial numbers show Mayfield receiving 4,945 votes (61.4 percent) while Grudek received 3,103 votes (38.6 percent). ...
