Tigers set to open season Friday at West Fork

Posted

The Green Forest Tigers will have to wait a little longer than expected to start their 2023 football season.

The Tigers will travel to West Fork as planned on Friday night, but kickoff has been pushed back to 8 p.m. because of the heat.

Friday’s high temperature in West Fork is forecast to be 102 degrees.

Green Forest hosted Clarksville in a scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 18, at Tiger Stadium. The Panthers outscored the Tigers 42-8 but Tibbitt said there were some bright sports for his team.

“We’ve got a lot of youth playing righ now,” Tibbitt said. “It is what it is, but Clarksville’s a tough scrimmage. Just what they do is a tough matchup for a week getting ready for it. There were some good things. There were some bad things. There were some things where we we looked like sophomores. Hopefully we can get all that fixed before West Fork this week.”

In particular, Tibbitt said sophomore guard Aksel Ochoa and sophomore tackle Luis Bathen stood out.

“They played really well for us,” Tibbitt said. “And they’re both kind of undersized. Defensively, Colton Fancher, another sophomore, played really well. Those three guys I was very impressed with.”

Junior running back Ridge Gordon-Swofford, who is expected to be the Tigers’ top offensive threat this fall, scored on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter. Green Forest then added a two-point conversion on a pass from sophomore quarterback Ryne Stone to junior receiver Boris Tobar.
