The Berryville Bobcats had a successful dress rehearsal for the 2026 football season, beating Clarksville 13-6 in a benefit game Friday, Aug. 21, at Bobcat Stadium.
This week, the curtain goes up for real.
Berryville will officially open the regular season on Friday, Aug. 28, hosting Hollister, Mo. Kickoff time is 7 p.m.
Entering his fourth season at Berryville, coach Macklin Chermak said the Bobcats are ahead of schedule compared with his first three years.
“We’re further along than we have been at this time in the past,” Chermak said.
Berryville went 5-5 last season after winning just eight games total in the five previous seasons. This year’s Bobcats will look to build on that momentum behind senior quarterback CT Hicks, a three-year starter, and senior run-
ning back John Butler, who also starts on defense.
Chermak said both looked good against Clarksville.
“John Butler showed he’s explosive,” Chermak said. “And CT continued to show that he’s a great dual-threat quarterback.”
Defensively, Chermak said senior linebacker Josh Arechiga, who is playing through a knee issue, saw limited time but showed why he is Berryville’s defensive leader.
“He only played one or two series, but he showed some great ability to come up, read the offense and fill the gap. He did an awesome job there.”
Sophomore Joseph Jabnil intercepted a pass for the Bobcats.
Hollister, which went 6-4 last season, is led by coach Chuck Speer, a veteran head coach in his first season with the Tigers.
“He’s won everywhere he’s been,” Chermak said. “He knows what he’s doing, so he’s going to have those kids competing hard.”
