Two years removed from a run of success that saw them win three state soccer championships in four seasons, the Green Forest Tigers are off to fine start this spring.
After an 8-1 loss to Fayetteville in a preseason scrimmage, the Tigers have opened the season 4-0-1, with the only blemish a scoreless tie against a tough Decatur squad.
“I’m fairly happy with the way things have been for the start of the season,” Tigers coach Eric Richter said. “We had a big wakeup call for our preseason scrimmage against Fayetteville and have been focusing on making fixes since then.”
Green Forest won three matches last week, defeating Gravette 8-0 at home on Monday, March 9, before collecting road wins on consecutive nights to close the week — 2-0 over the Springdale Har-Ber junior varsity on Thursday, March 12, and 4-1 over Pea Ridge one night later.
“I think the team looks good this year,” Richter said. “From here on out we have conference play twice a week. Hopefully we prepared well enough.”
The Tigers play at Clarksville on Tuesday, March 17, before hosting Morrilton on Thursday, March 19.
