Reyes, Russell take 2nd place at state meet

Green Forest seniors Arauny Reyes and Lydia Russell finished their high school track and field careers at the Class 4A state championships on Tuesday, May 6, in Heber Springs.

Reyes, a three-time Class 3A state champion in the indoor and outdoor 1,600 meters, took second place in that event. He finished in a time of 4 minutes, 31.51 seconds, a Green Forest school record.

Reyes finished fourth in the 800-meter run (2:01.80).

Russell, a five-time Class 3A state champion, finished second in the girls 300-meter hurdles (47.77 seconds), third in the 100-meter hurdles (16.39) sixth in the 100-meter dash (a school-record 12.88) and eighth in the long jump (16 feet, 3.75 inches).

Berryville sophomore Kinly Smith was sixth in the girls shot put (33-3.5). Classmate Kai Killingsworth was seventh in the girls 1,600-meter run (5:54.82) Junior Kaylyn Smith, Kinly’s sister, was ninth in the 400-meter dash (1:04.01) and 11th in the triple jump (32-2.25). The Lady Bobcats’ 4X400 relay team of Chaney Fairweather, Cara Summers, Marcella Gray and Kaylyn Smith finished ninth (4:35.60).
