Green Forest advanced to the championship game of the John Selph Memorial Wood Bat Tournament in West Fork before falling 3-2 to Valley Springs on Saturday, March 14.
The Tigers were led in the final by a strong outing from Isaac Kennedy, who worked 7 1/3 innings and allowed just two hits and three runs — one earned — while striking out six. He threw 146 pitches and faced 32 batters.
Green Forest finished with six hits in the championship game. Cole Meador and Jace Meador each had two hits, while Colin Atchison and Radon Lawrence added one hit apiece. Lawrence also had two stolen bases.
Valley Springs scored three runs on two hits to secure the win.
Green Forest reached the title game with wins over West Fork and Lamar earlier in the week.
The Tigers opened tournament play Wednesday with a 3-0 win over West Fork. Gavin Tharp pitched a complete game, allowing four hits over seven innings while striking out five and walking two.
Green Forest followed with an 8-7 win over Lamar in Friday’s semifinal.
The Tigers totaled seven hits and took advantage of scoring opportunities to outlast Lamar.
Jace Meador led the way with two hits, while Radon Lawrence added two hits and scored a run. Eli Kennedy drove in three runs, and Isaac Kennedy added two RBIs.
On the mound, Atchison pitched five innings, allowing five hits and six runs while striking out 12.
