Playing without their senior point guard, against probably the best Class 4A team in the state, the odds were stacked against the Berryville Bobcats last Friday night at Bobcat Arena.
And the odds held, as a talented Farmington team beat Berryville 68-28 in the 4A-1 conference opener for both teams.
“They’re just on a completely, totally different level,” Berryville coach Brent Compton said. “Not just from us, but everyone in the state. There’s only two or three teams in the state that have a chance to beat them, in my opinion. I think they should win the state title.”
Farmington led 24-6 at the end of the first quarter and 45-17 at halftime.
The loss snapped an eight-game winning streak for Berryville (10-2). Farmington is unbeaten in 13 games.
Berryville played without senior Nate Allen, a three-year starter, because of an injury.
“We were shorthanded, but they were just that good,” Compton said. “Maybe we could have it made a little better game if we’d had all five starters.”
Compton said he’s not sure when Allen will be able to return.
On Tuesday, Dec. 13, Berryville won at Blue Eye, 55-36. Senior Jake Wilson scored 22 points and classmate D.J. Colbert added 16.
Berryville will play at Shiloh Christian on Tuesday. The Bobcats host the annual CS Bank Holiday Hoops tournament starting Wednesday, Feb. 28. Berryville will face Fordyce in a first-round game.
