Bobcats pick up 1st two conference victories

Posted

If ever there was a basketball team that needed a conference victory, it was the Berryville Bobcats.

Two conference victories? Even better!

Faced with the challenge of playing three conference games in a four-day stretch last week — including two on the road — the Bobcats responded.

Berryville shook off a home loss to Huntsville on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Bobcat Arena with road victories the following night at Green Forest and on Friday, Jan. 17, at Gentry.

Sophomore CT Hicks provided a spark in the victory at Green Forest, scoring 19 of his game-high 24 points in the first half. Hicks scored 12 points in the second quarter as Berryville pushed its halftime lead to 43-20 after outscoring the Tigers 23-6 in the first quarter.

Junior Peyton Smith and sophomore Carson McMellon each added 12 points for Berryville.

Green Forest was led by sophomore Collin Atchison with 15 points and classmate Grady Massengale with 14.

In Friday night’s victory at Gentry, Berryville led 4033 at halftime before outscoring the Pioneers 20-9 in the third quarter to open up an 18-point lead. Smith led the Bobcats with 24 points — including 12 in the fourth quarter and 18 in the second half. McMellon scored 18 points, all on three-pointers — including five in the first half. Hicks added 14 points for Berryville.

In the Jan. 14 loss to Huntsville, Berryville was outscored 37-20 in the second half after leading 24-22 at halftime. Smith scored 26 points for the Bobcats, including 18 in the second half.

Berryville will play at Pea Ridge on Tuesday, Jan. 21, to close out the first half of the conference season. The Bobcats will host Prairie Grove on Friday, Jan. 24.
