The Berryville Lady Bobcats split two volleyball matches on the road last week, rallying for a five-set victory over Valley Springs on Monday, Aug. 26, before losing in straight sets at Gravette three days later.
Berryville defeated Valley Springs 27-29, 19-25, 25-17, 25-13, 15-9. The Lady Bobcats lost to Gravette 13-25, 9-25, 16-25.
“Against Valley, we just played real nervous the first couple of sets,” Berryville coach Kristin Whetham said. “But once we calmed down and took a couple of deep breaths and realized that, just do what we can do. We were trying to overdo, and we kind of took a step back and started doing things that we know we can do and started playing a lot better.”
Whetham said Gravette was a much stronger team than when Berryville faced the Lady Lions over the summer.
“It turns out they were missing their entire starting group,” Whetham said. “So we kind of went in there and got a little blindsided. … But do I think we could have played a lot better than we did? Yes, I do. .”
Berryville will host Huntsville on Tuesday, Sept. 3, before traveling to Prairie Grove on Thursday, Sept. 5.
