ES Hospital’s Medicare agreement in jeopardy
A recent survey of Eureka Springs Hospital conducted by the Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services identified several “deficiencies” that could potentially lead to the termination of the hospital’s Medicare agreement, according to a Nov. 26 letter from the Arkansas Department of Health.

Berryville fire chief retiring
Berryville Fire Chief Shannon Chester has retired from his position after more than 30 years with the fire department and more than a decade as chief. Chester submitted his resignation, which was effective Oct.
TJ Maxx leases space for Berryville store
Discount retailer TJ Maxx has leased space in the Berryville Center and plans to open a store there as early as September 2025, according to property owner Jeff Crockett. Crockett, who bought the shopping center in December 2023, said TJ Maxx has signed a 10-year lease with multiple options on the empty spaces formerly occupied by Cato’s, Cox Communications and Payless ShoeSource, as well as some additional space in the center.
Landowners file suit against county
Less than a week after Carroll County Judge David Writer signed a road use and maintenance agreement relating to a planned wind farm near Green Forest, a lawsuit was filed in Carroll County Circuit Court seeking a permanent injunction that would prevent the county from acting on the agreement.
