William DeForrest (De) Howes of Holiday Island, Arkansas was born October 13, 1931, in Manhattan, Kansas to John and Mary (Hungerford) Howes. De passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at the age of 91.

De was raised on a farm in northeast Kansas and graduated from Whiting High School in 1949. After attending technical school, De became a television and radio technician for Advance Music Company. In 1959, De began his career as a customer service engineer for IBM and retired in 1993. De enjoyed camping and sailing with his family and had a passion for woodworking and electronics. De was the ultimate “do it yourselfer” and taught his kids valuable skills like how to hold the flashlight and which end of the screwdriver to use. De and his wife, Nina were married for 64 years and enjoyed square dancing and traveling together.

De is survived by his sons, Donald Howes and wife Jan of Holiday Island, Arkansas and Richard Howes and wife Cheryl of Lake Lotawana, Missouri; daughter, Anita Fuller and husband Mike Loveall of Independence, Missouri; eight grandchildren: Jim, Julie, Emily, Bobby, Sarah, Amber, Matthew and Jenny; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Terry Howes of Golden, Colorado; sisterin- law, Phyllis Holmes of Shawnee, Kansas, as well as many other family members and friends.

De is preceded in death by his wife, Nina Mae (Smith) Howes; parents, John and Mary Howes; half-sister, Theola Carey and half-brother, Herbert Howes.

A Celebration of Life memorial will be scheduled in Kansas City later this fall. Memorial donations may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Rd, Springdale, AR 72712. Cremation arrangements under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Online condolences may be sent to nelsonfuneral. com.
