Sue Carolyn Winkle, age 90, of Harrison, AR, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Countryside Assisted Living in Harrison, Arkansas.
She was born April 19, 1935, in Green Forest, AR, a daughter of Raymond and Margaret Buell.
For over 35 years, Sue served the Green Forest, Blue Eye, Academy of Excellence and Berryville schools, where she taught elementary and secondary school. She also homeschooled her grandson Phillip after her retirement. Her ability to make learning fun and meaningful left a lasting impact with several of her former students who followed in her footsteps, becoming teachers because of the joy she brought to their school experience.
She attended First Assembly of God and taught Sunday School classes for many years. She left an eternal legacy for her grandchildren at weekly family bible studies through her care and guidance. Sue’s love for God and family was the focus of her life.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Hugh Lester Winkle, sister, Betty Buell Bishop and daughter-in-law, Sheila Winkle.
Sue is survived by her brother Gary (Joann)Buell, brother-in-law Johnnie (Yvonne) Winkle, sister-in-law Cleo Winkle, and children Steve (Linda) Winkle of Green Forest, AR, Peggy (Rick) Nance of London, AR, Jeff (Amy) Winkle of Harrison, AR and Mark Winkle of Fort Worth, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ryan, Blake, Allison, Sarah, Andrew, Emily, Paul, Anna, Phillip, Brooke, Brady, Felicia and Chelsea. She also has 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
In addition, Sue is remembered by many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Keith Butler officiating and Rick Nance. Burial will follow at Fair Grove Cemetery in Green Forest. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Sue’s memory to Fair Grove Cemetery, c/o Kay Bing, 345 CR 804, Green Forest, AR 72616 or Gidion’s International, PO Box 362, Berryville, AR 72616.
