Maxine Whiteley passed away at the Blossoms of Berryville on April 12, 2023, with her family at her bedside.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Phillips and her parents, Blanch (Burks) Phillips and Vernon Phillips.
Survivors include, daughter, Deborah White (Richard) of Joplin, Mo.; son, Kevin Whiteley (Eunice) of Green Forest, Ark.; four grandchildren, Clayton White (Victoria) of Joplin Mo., Jessica King (Jake) of Seneca, Mo., Kara Arnold (Travis) of Harrison, Ark., and Kalin Whiteley of Green Forest, Ark. Six great-grandchildren, Jasmine King, Jude King, Jasper King, Claire White, Merritt Arnold and Lochlan Arnold. Brothers, Earl Phillips and Dwight Phillips. Sisters, Mary Kisner, Sharon Anderson, Donna Janeway and June Sayre; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Maxine was born in the Gobbler community of Carroll County, Ark. Her father, Vernon Phillips, took his family west in the early 1950s in search of work. A_er several stops, in many states along the way, they wound up in Castleford, Idaho. ere Maxine married Clay Whiteley. Maxine was a homemaker and seamstress, doing sewing and alterations of clothing for several years making wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses. She attended and graduated from the Harrison School of Cosmetology in 1986. She enjoyed working in her yard and was known for her gardening abilities. She took up quilting a_er retirement and made sure all her children and grandchildren had one of her quilts. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and aunt. She was a member of the Green Forest Church of Christ.
Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. at Gobbler Cemetery, Wednesday, April 19, 2023. Memorial donations may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 804 W Freeman Ave, Berryville, AR 72616. Arrangements under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Online condolences may be sent to nelsonfuneral. com.
