Letter to the Editor: Thank you to my Carroll County village

Posted

It took a village to help me develop the skills to become a physician. I have formally graduated from the UAMS Medical School earning both honors in research and honors in global health and community service. This experience has been enlightening, humbling and more rewarding than I could have ever imagined. I want to extend enormous gratitude to my family, friends and community for the boundless love and support I have received over the past eight years. Your encouragement, confidence in my abilities and words of affirmation have given me the strength to thrive in medicine.

I want to especially recognize my Grandpa, Don Blach, who supported me in everything I have done. I treasure his memory and his influence in my life on Yocum Creek Ranch. His “precious, blue-eyed cowgirl with integrity” has reached a milestone we dreamed about. It’s his support and my mom’s encouragement to be the very best I can be, that I am forever grateful.

I would like to thank the Berryville Mercy Hospital Axillary for providing two scholarships towards my undergraduate education. Thank you to the Mercy Volun-Teen organization that was instrumental in giving me added interest in medicine. I am thankful for the CNA program where I learned what it was like to care for an elderly patient providing them the basic care all health care professionals should be able to do.

A special thank you to the teachers and coaches at the Green Forest schools for supporting my aspirations and goals. I have always recognized the significance of being a positive role model to the young ladies in my community. As Miss Green Forest 2012 and Miss Carroll County 2013, I developed confidence in being on a stage in evening attire and a swimsuit, and projecting confidence speaking to a crowd. My confidence in those skills was instrumental in winning the interview, best dress and swimsuit contests. Please tour the Berryville Historical Museum and see the history of Miss Carroll County, on display now.

I’m heading to OB/GYN residency in New Jersey for another four years of training. It has been a time of immense personal and professional growth, and I am excited to see how these next four years of training shape me. Officially, Dr. Blach at your cervix.
