Johnnie Lee Scroggins

Posted

Johnnie Lee Scroggins, 81, of Busch, Arkansas, went to be with his Lord on April 22, 2025.

Johnnie’s love for the Lord was immense. He took joy in sharing testimony with friends new and old, encouraging them to trust in God and to follow His tenets of love and generosity.

Johnnie served his country in the Vietnam War as part of the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles.

His courage and diligence earned him the Bronze Star Medal, and his devotion to his comrades shaped the rest of his life. He often spoke to fellow veterans about their war experiences, helped them secure benefits, and opened his home to those struggling.

Born to Harry and Lucille (Weston) Scroggins in Beaver, Arkansas, on February 10, 1944, Johnnie helped build the Beaver Dam and later worked all over the United States and abroad in the pipeline industry. He operated heavy equipment and transported oversized loads.

Johnnie loved to work on his property. In his backhoe almost daily, Johnnie never ran short of projects to work on or of people to instruct. He is survived by his spouse, Amanda; his stepchildren, two siblings: Mike Scroggins and Harriet Scroggins Franklin and husband, Don, as well as a many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lucille Scroggins; his brother, Donnie Scroggins; and his muchloved dogs, BooBoo, Polly and Mackie.

A service for Johnnie Lee Scroggins will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025, along with military funeral honors at 140 Flamingo Lane in Busch, Arkansas, followed by a BBQ luncheon like Johnnie held every year for friends and family. Internment will be at Beaver Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at nelsonfuneral.com.
