Howard Ray Williams

Howard Ray Williams was born on July 26th, 1938, at Jess Williams’ place in North Polo Township/ High Community to Darlene High and Archie Williams.

He married Leah Carolyn Smith in 1956 and together they had Pamela, Lori and Tracy. Howard worked at Williams Grocery in Berryville, Green Forest, and Harrison throughout the 60s, owned his own grocery store in the late 60s and 70s, and worked for Williams Butcher Shop throughout the 70s and 80s. He then moved to raising Limousin cattle until 2010.

He remarried in 1995 to Miriam Louise Atchley. They resided at the farm in Oak Grove before moving to Everton in 2010, then finally to Clarksville.

Howard was known as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He passed away on January 23rd, 2024, in Russellville, Arkansas, surrounded by loved ones.

He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Miriam Williams; as well as his siblings, Gerald Johnson (Orchid) and Almeta Johnson Bulla; his children, Pamela Williams, Lori Hatfield, Brian Atchley, Bruce Atchley, and JoNell Hogrefe. Howard and Miriam had 21 grandkids, 37 great-grandkids, and four greatgreat- grandkids; and more nieces and nephews than you can shake a stick at. Howard was preceded in death by his grandparents, Myrtle and Frank High; his parents, Archie Williams, Darlene High Johnson and step-father, Clifford Johnson; his aunts, Lorene, Jimmie Dee and Donna; his sister, Patsy (Johnson) Armer (Calvin); his son, Tracy Williams and grandson, Travis Kelly.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 26, 2024, at Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Curtis Bradley officiating.
