Carol Ann Stubbs Dean Engskov

Posted

Carol Ann Stubbs Dean Engskov was born September 17, 1948, in Berryville, Arkansas. She loved Berryville from Day 1. She died peacefully with family and so much love surrounding her on February 6, 2026, at the age of 77. A beloved wife, Mom, Nana, sister, friend and a truly kind and giving woman. Luther and Lennis (Patton) Stubbs were her parents. Her brother Ronald (Butch) died six months prior to her birth. He was missed a lot. Carol was also preceded in death by her brother, Steve Stubbs, whom she loved dearly and missed deeply. She was lucky to have 4 other brothers and 1 sister born after her: Betty, Mike, Chuck, Mark and David. Each was unique and loved by their big sis.

Her first marriage gave her three wonderful children - Andy, LeAnn and Megan. Her second marriage gave her true love and a real prince charming, Paul Engskov. Never for a day was their love doubted. Paul added fun, adventure, and joy to her life.

Carol loved her gardening (Luther taught her), the Bobcats, purple and gold colors, her jobs (teachers’ aide, tutor, waitress and public library director). How lucky she was.

She loved old movies and popcorn, strawberries, baking, Stubbs Grocery, Check’s hamburgers, and family events. Carol was the smartest person in the room and a lifelong learner. She instilled a love of reading in her family and the question “what are you reading?” was always top of mind.

Carol was smart, funny, loving and such a fan of life! “Let’s have a birthday party,” “we need to celebrate, play games, and see everyone and every place”.

No Mom, wife, sister, or Nana ever cared more for her family. She actively cared about everyone’s life and took joy in everyone’s wins and cried with us in our times of sadness. She was our champion.

She loved to bake and her fudge was legendary. She loved to grow flowers and plants, and her green thumb was amazing to witness. Even when she was sick these last 2 years, she would bake or teach others to help bake and she would garden and grow her plants. The garden was holy ground for Carol, and we were all lucky to partake in the harvests and the joy in pulling weeds with her.

Carol believed in magic and love.

She had a good life, and she always hoped she made a difference in someone’s life. This was never in doubt for those who knew her. She will always be with us.

She would love for you to listen to “The Dance” by Garth Brooks. It says it all.

Carol is survived by her husband, Paul Engskov; children, Andy Dean, LeAnn Morrissey and Megan Gage; daughter-in-law, Annette Dean; sons-in-law, Ed Morrissey and Chad Gage; grandchildren, Keilan Morrissey, Navi Prince, William Dean, Drew Dean, Brooklea Dean, Madison Gernhart and Grace Gernhart; great-grandchild, Eden Prince; her siblings and their spouses: Mike and Debbie Stubbs, Charles Stubbs, Betty (Stubbs) Harris, David Stubbs, Mark and Lois Stubbs.

She loved her nieces and nephews and their families dearly - Corie Post, Keri Stubbs, Mariah Harp, Jeremiah Harris, Graham Stubbs, Maurin Stubbs and Isaac Stubbs.

As Carol requested, there will not be a funeral. We will have a visitation on Thursday, February 19th, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville, Arkansas.

In the Spring, we will have a “service of love” and celebration of her life at her garden to plant wildflowers and be together with family and friends. In Carol’s memory, please consider a donation to the Friends of the Library, 104 Spring Street, Berryville, AR 72616 for the Building Project to help furnish the new library for generations to come. Any remembrances of Carol are greatly appreciated. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Online condolences may be sent to nelson@nelsonfuneral. com.
