The Berryville School District’s building fund grew a by a substantial amount after the district board approved a transfer of funds from its general budget during the board’s regular meeting on July 18.

Former Eureka Springs fire marshal and assistant fire chief Jim Kelley retired earlier this year, criticizing what he described as the “Downfall of the Fire Department” in a letter to fire chief Nick Samac.

The Eureka Springs Parks and Recreation Commission has taken the first step in repairing and refurbishing historic Basin Spring Park. At a July 12 special meeting, the commission approved a contract with McClelland Engineering for the initial surveying and analysis of the structural issues at the park.

After canceling its regularly scheduled meeting on July 5, the Berryville City Council returned to its regular schedule on July 19 for a short meeting focused mainly on reviewing monthly reports. Mayor Tim McKinney took time to remind everyone about the burn ban in effect in Carroll County.

The Museum of Eureka Springs Art has a home. The recently formed group will soon be housed in the Highlander Room at the Eureka Springs Community Center after a recent partnership between the two organizations.

As triple-digit temperatures and weeks without rain suck the life out of pastures and hay meadows, Arkansas’ cattle producers are having to sell part or all of their herds. Kevin Lawson, who directs extension activities in the 25-county Ozark District, an area heavy in cattle, doesn’t mince words about what he has seen.

This week’s Pet of the Week is Miles. Miles is a loving, high-energy lab mix that is looking for someone to share his life with. Miles would be great as a solo pet and would be perfect for a young, active family. The Carroll County Senior Activity and Wellness Center is located at 202 W. Madison Ave. in Berryville. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. Lunch is served at noon each weekday. The suggested donation for ages 60 and up is $4. There is a $6 charge for those under 60 and all carryout meals. Breakfast is served Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Menus are subject to change.
