Carroll County News managing editor Scott Loftis and associate editor Robert Cox received a total of five awards in the National Newspaper Association Foundation’s 2022 Better Newspaper Contest — including first place for Loftis in Freedom of Information reporting — the foundation announced Thursday, June 30.

Green Forest police chief John Bailey confirmed last week that three juveniles have been arrested in connection with a recent shooting, and court documents indicate two of the three are being charged as adults.

Friends of the Berryville Library members and bank leaders recently gathered at Equity Bank in Berryville as Equity market president Craig Kesner announced the bank’s intention to pledge $25,000 toward the construction of a new Berryville library.

Continuing increases in COVID-19 cases in Carroll County have prompted at least one local hospital to reinstate some of its pandemic protocols. Eureka Springs Hospital CEO Angie Shaw told members of the hospital commission last week that the recent spike has caused the hospital to reinstate some to the protocols it had relaxed, including masks and barriers in certain areas.

The Eureka Springs Hospital Commission might be ambulance shopping in the near future. At its June 20 regular meeting, the commission heard from Eureka Springs Hospital CEO Angie Shaw about issues with area transport services that are causing major delays in getting patients moved to larger facilities.

Eureka Springs Hospital Clinic temporarily closed its doors effective Thursday, June 30. The urgent care clinic opened on March 1, 2022, with the intent to offer primary care as well.
