Eureka Springs City Council member Bill Ott will pay the city $1,000 to settle a lawsuit Ott filed in 2021. The city council approved the settlement agreement at its regular meeting on Aug.

The Berryville School District board pushed its August meeting back a week because of the first day of school on Aug. 15.

The Berryville Library Building Fund has received $10,000 to preserve in pictures the tremendous effect placing more books in homes can have on the children of Carroll County. Images of Dolly Parton along with young Carroll County citizens reading books received from her Imagination Library program will be featured on the end of a shelving unit in the new library. With the shelving units standing eight feet high, this will be an almost life-sized tribute to the efforts of the Carroll County Youth Literacy Rotary Foundation that community members will view every time they are in the library for years to come.

An Arkansas Municipal League attorney has filed a response on behalf of Eureka Springs Mayor Butch Berry and other city officials, asking a judge to dismiss a civil lawsuit filed by a former city employee.

Carroll County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training will be held in Berryville and Holiday Island beginning in late September. Training will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each Tuesday from Sept. 27 through Oct. 25 at the Berryville Fire Department.

The first of three defendants accused in the 2018 killing of a Carroll County man is scheduled to go to trial beginning Tuesday in Eureka Springs. Jason Hartley Helm is charged with first-degree murder and cruelty to animals in connection with the death of Chris Alvard, whose body was found in his home near Eureka Springs.

After a week of no reported local deaths attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Arkansas Department of Health reported three more Carroll County residents had died from complications related to the novel coronavirus, bringing the local death toll to 112.
