David Writer will be the next Carroll County Judge.
Writer, currently foreman for the county road department, avoided a runoff by taking 57.7 percent of the vote in a three-man race in Tuesday’s general election.
Writer, a Republican, defeated Democrat James “Rusty” Rusterholz Jr. and independent Kelly Wood.
Don McNeely was elected mayor of Green Forest, receiving 70.7 percent of the vote. McNeely, a longtime justice of the peace, defeated longtime city council member Willa Kerby and former mayor Charlie Reece.
Eureka Springs had several contested races, starting with a four-way race for mayor. Incumbent Butch Berry won a third term in office. Berry received 507 votes, 51.7 percent of all those cast in the election. Tracy Johnson, former events coordinator for the Eureka Springs City Advertising and Commission, finished second with 203 votes.
City council member Autumn Slane defeated Laura Jo Smole to retain the Ward 1, Position 1 seat. Slane received 52.2 percent of the vote.
City council member Melissa Greene won re-election over former council member Bob Thomas in Ward 2, Position 1. Greene received 55.7 percent of the vote.
Challenger Steve Holifield, chair of the city’s Historic District Commission, defeated incumbent Bill Ott for the Ward 2, Position 2 seat. Holifield received 51.1 percent of the vote.
In Holiday Island, incumbent Patrick Elwood defeated challenger Brian Tagliaferro to retain the Ward 3, Position 1 seat on the city council. Elwood received 64.1 percent of the vote.
Republican Todd Summers won the race for constable of Central Township. Summers received 53.6 percent of the vote to defeat Democrat Butch Hanby and independent Trace Glisson.
All other city and county races were uncontested.
In local races for seats in the state legislature, Republican Bryan King received 66.5 percent of the vote in Carroll County for the District 28 seat in the state Senate, outdistancing Democrat Jim Wallace. District-wide totals were not available as of 11 p.m. Tuesday. Republican Harlan Breaux won the District 6 seat in the state House of Representatives, defeating Democrat Markeeta Tucker and Libertarian Dakota Logan. Breaux received 60.1 percent of the vote in Carroll County and 62.1 percent district-wide.
The Carroll County results are unofficial. The county election commission will meet Friday, Nov. 18, to certify the results.
