If the Berryville Lady Bobcats are going to have a successful 2022 soccer season, coach Aaron Hall says, they must win close games.
“Our league is pretty tough,” Hall said. “And the bottom line is: Can you win 2-1 games, 3-2 games, 4-3 games? And if we can win the close ones, I don’t know why we don’t have a chance.”
Hall said it may take a while for him to fully evaluate his team.
“I think we’re going to have 11, 12, 13 kids that are going to be solid,” he said. “Barring injury, I like the team that we’re going to be able to field. One of our weaknesses is overall team speed. So we’ve got to be more tactical than speed-oriented, which I think we have the ability to be.”
The Lady Bobcats will be led by a trio of seniors — Avery Bell, Zara Roque and Mia Thurman — who are all returning starters.
Senior Allie Moreno is healthy after battling injuries most of last season.
Juniors Carla Cruz and Abby Blankenship and sophomores Ashlyn Standlee and Alyssa Morales all could play key minutes for the Lady Bobcats, as well.
Berryville opened the season Tuesday, March 7, at Life Way Christian.
“I’ll be excited to see what the kids are capable of,” Hall said. “As long as we don’t have any significant injuries, I think we’ll be solid. I really like our kids and they are working hard.”
