In her first season as Green Forest’s head volleyball coach, Kristin Whetham is focused on getting the Lady Tigers to play their best at the right time.
“I just keep preaching to my girls: ‘The second half of the season, that’s what we’re fighting for.’ We’re taking this first half to get things figured out. And then the second half of the season, it’s a whole new ballgame.”
Heading into Monday night’s home match against Berryville, Green Forest was still looking for its first win of the season. But the Lady Tigers have been competitive.
“If we could just get one win with this group of girls …,” Whetham said. “Because the talent’s there. We’re looking better and better and better.”
Senior Kaylyn Smith leads Green Forest with 29 kills to go with 26 digs and seven aces. Junior Kinly Smith, Kaylyn’s sister, has a team-32 assists, 31 digs, nine aces and six kills. Senior libero Codi Joubert has 56 digs.
Senior Brinley Bishop has 32 digs, 10 kills and three aces, while sophomore Emerson DeMeyer has 12 digs, nine kills and four aces. Senior Tay’sha Luedke has 11 digs, four kills and one block and senior Bella Phillips has 15 digs, six kills, five aces and two blocks.After hosting Berryville on Monday, Green Forest travels to Pea Ridge on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
