West Fork tops Bobcats

Posted

Last Friday night’s game at West Fork was the season opener for the Berryville Bobcats, but it was Game No. 2 for the Tigers, who came out ready to play.

West Fork converted a trick play into a long touchdown pass on the game’s first play from scrimmage, added another long TD pass on its second offensive series, and went on to defeat Berryville 28-6.

Berryville’s defense settled in after the two early touchdowns by West Fork put the Tigers ahead 13-0. That score held until halftime as West Fork receivers dropped a pair of passes in the end zone in the closing seconds of the second quarter.

The Bobcats’ offense struggled most of the night against West Fork’s big, physical defense but broke through in the fourth quarter with a scoring drive that included several nice runs by junior Zane Gentry. Sophomore Decimus Ruiz, who started at quarterback for Berryville, scored the Bobcats’ first touchdown of the season on a 37-yard keeper that cut West Fork’s lead to 21-6.

Berryville will play its home opener Friday night at Bobcat Stadium against Greenland, which is com ing off a 51-9 victory last Friday over Green Forest.
