Velvia Joy Smith Molder was born March 17, 1932, to Fred and Fairy Smothers. She departed this life Thursday, February 3, 2023 at her home in Green Forest, Arkansas at the age of 90.
Joy will be missed by all who knew her. She was affectionately called Grannie by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gathering the family for all the holidays. Joy loved shopping with her girls. She loved to cook for her family and church family. Joy loved to garden and her and Steve spent many hours picking and canning green beans. She loved to travel and was lucky to have two husbands who like to travel also. Joy loved traveling in her R.V. with family and friends. She was a strong Christian lady. Beautiful inside and out.
She is survived by her daughter, Fairye Snow and husband J.R.; son, Steve Smith; grandchildren, Joy Liz Sims and husband Martin, Jae Lea Snow, Roy Brent Smith and wife Cassie, Alisha Bailey and husband Scott, Anika Phillips and husband Jarrod; sisters-in-law, Linda Smothers and Faye Smothers; Sam’s children G.H. and Suzy Kilgore, Mandy and Ryan Burgess, Cody Kilgore; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
Joy is preceded by her parents, Fred and Fairy Smothers; husband, Roy Pence Smith of 52 years; husband, Sammie Molder of 19 years; granddaughter, JoDee Snow; daughter-inlaw, Ruthie Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Freddie and F.M. Massengale; brothers, James Sonny Smothers, Kenny Smothers.
Visitation will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Nelson’s Green Forest Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Bo Bailey and Jerry Scitern officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Online condolences may be sent to nelsonfuneral.com.
