Tournament tips off Wednesday at Bobcat Arena

The 14th Annual CS Bank Holiday Hoops Tournament tips off Wednesday at Bobcat Arena in Berryville.

The tournament features 16 teams in the boys and girls divisions, including the host Bobcats and Lady Bobcats as well as the Green Forest boys and girls.

Berryville boys coach Brent Compton said he expects to see some quality basketball.

“We have a great field,” Compton said. “I’m looking forward to it.”

Compton listed several good teams that are participating in this year’s tournament.

“Bergman is really good,” he said. “Clinton boys are really good. Arkadelphia pretty much has everybody back. Those are the three teams that I think, any of those teams could possibly win the tournament on the boys side.”

Those same schools also have solid girls teams that will be competing this week, Compton said.

“So it’s kind of the same way on both sides as far as maybe the top of the tournament bracket.”

Compton said having local and regional teams like Green Forest, Bergman and Omaha could make for a good atmosphere in the arena.

“Our crowds, I think, are really going to reflect that, and that’s what we wanted the most,” he said.

The tournament will start at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Green Forest girls taking on Arkadelphia.

The Green Forest and Arkadelphia boys are scheduled to play at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Berryville’s teams will play in the final two games Wednesday night, with the Berryville girls taking on Crane, Mo., at 6 p.m. and the Berryville boys facing Shirley at 7:20 p.m.

Each team is guaranteed three games in the tournament. The girls championship game is set for 6 p.m. Friday, with the boys championship following at 7:20 p.m.
