The Green Forest Tigers baseball team won three games in a row last week, sweeping a doubleheader from visiting Valley Springs on Monday, March 25, in Harrison before winning at Lead Hill on Thursday, March 28.
The Tigers beat Valley Springs 7-5 in the first game and 9-6 in the second.
In the first game, Green Forest pulled out the victory by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh inning after trailing 5-4. Junior Mason Meador delivered a bases-loaded double to score all three Tigers runs. His younger brother, freshman Jace Meador had two RBI for Green Forest, while freshman twins Radon and Jayse Lawrence each scored two runs and Radon had two hits from the leadoff spot.
Mason Meador pitched five innings for Green Forest, striking out 10 batters while allowing four hits. Four of the five runs that Valley Springs scored off Meador were unearned.
Junior Kasen Robinson pitched the final two innings for Green Forest without allowing a hit or run.
In the second game against Valley Springs, Green Forest scored all nine of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Trailing 1-0, the Tigers tied the score when Jayse Lawrence scored on sophomore Isaac Kennedy’s sacrifice fly. Two batters later, senior Tristin Burgess drew a bases-loaded walk to score freshman Collin Atchison and give Green Forest a 2-1 lead.
Senior Levi Tipton was then hit by a pitch, scoring Mason Meador, before Robinson followed with an RBI single to score junior courtesy runner Brityn Gilliam. Sophomore Ryne Stone was next up for the Tigers with an RBI single that scored Burgess. Radon Lawrence also came home for a 6-1 lead.One out later, Atchison hit a double to center field to score Robinson and Stone before Mason Meador drove home the Tigers’ final run with a single to score sophomore courtesy runner Gabe Serna.
Atchison had three hits and drove in two runs and Mason Meador had two hits for Green Forest.
Robinson pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out four batter and walking three. Atchison pitched the final two innings for Green Forest.
Green Forest was in control from the outset in Thursday’s game at Lead Hill, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning and leading 11-1 after four on the way to a 15-4 victory.
Atchison drove in three runs to lead Green Forest, which took advantage of 11 walks and four Lead Hill errors. Radon Lawrence had two hits, drove in two runs and scored twice. Mason Meador scored two runs and Jace Meador knocked in two.
Kennedy pitched five innings for Green Forest, holding Lead Hill to two runs on two hits while striking out 12 batters and walking five. Radon Lawrence finished up, striking out six batters and walking two while allowing two runs on two hits.
Green Forest played at Elkins on Monday, April 1. The Tigers are scheduled to play at Jasper on Friday, April 5.
