Tigers sweep doubleheader on Senior Night

Senior Night couldn’t have gone much better for the Green Forest Tigers.

Green Forest’s pitchers held Bergman to two hits over nine innings as the Tigers swept a doubleheader from the Panthers by a combined margin of 38-5 on Tuesday, April 9. Green Forest won the first game 15-0 in four innings and then took the nightcap 23-5 in five innings.

Junior Mason Meador had a big day on the mound and at the plate. He held Bergman hitless over four innings while striking out eight batters in the first game, then drove in four runs on three hits in the second game.

Levi Tipton, one of two seniors for the Tigers, had three hits, drove in three runs and scored twice in the first game. Freshman Radon Lawrence had two hits, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. Freshman Jace Meador drove in two runs and sophomore Ryne Stone scored two runs.

Green Forest scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and added six in the third to back up Mason Meador’s pitching.

The second game was more competitive early. After Green Forest scored four runs in the top of the first inning, Bergman answered with two in the bottom of the first.

The Tigers responded with five runs in the second, including two on an inside-the-park home run by Mason Meador to extend their lead to 9-2.

Bergman got within 11-5 after scoring three runs in the bottom of the third, but Green Forest put it away with seven runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth. Sophomore Gabe Serna had a two-run inside-thepark home run to make it 15-5 in the fourth.

Freshman Collin Atchison had five of Green Forest’s 14 hits, driving in three runs and scoring four. Mason Meador had three hits, four RBI and two runs scored. Serna drove in two runs and scored three.

Junior Brityn Gilliam also had two RBI and three runs scored, while Tipton scored three runs to go with two hits and a run batted in.

Freshman Zeke Harlan drove in two runs and scored one for the Tigers.

Sophomore Kasen Robinson pitched three innings for Green Forsest, allowing three earned runs on one hit and four walks while striking out six batters. Senior Tristin Burgess finished up with two scoreless innings. Burgess struck out four batters and walked two.

Green Forest lost at Harrison 16-1 on Friday, April 12. The Tigers played at Lincoln on Monday, April 15. They’ll host Yellville-Summit on Thursday, April 18, and Berryville on Friday, April 19, to close out the regular season.
