The Green Forest Tigers lost their first game of the 2025 football season to Hollister, Mo., but that doesn’t mean there weren’t some bright spots for Green Forest.
Visiting Hollister defeated Green Forest 47-20 at Tiger Stadium.
“That’s a good team,” said Green Forest coach Dalton Ewing, who was making his debut as his alma mater’s head coach. “They had a lot of kids back and a lot of experience, so I expected them to be pretty solid.”
Green Forest’s season started as well as it possibly could, as junior running back Ywa Hay Moo broke loose for a 66-yard touchdown run on the Tigers’ first play from scrimmage.
Hollister answered immediately, however, returning the ensuing kickoff for a game-tying touchdown.
“It was a big high and then a big low,” Ewing said.
Hollister went on to lead 28-7 early in the second quarter before Green Forest sophomore Hadley Maybee turned a quarterback keeper into a 29-yard touchdown run.
Junior Jace Meador scored Green Forest’s final touchdown on a short run late in the fourth quarter.
In all, Green Forest rushed for 197 yards.
“We averaged it up and we were getting five yards a carry,” Ewing said. “End of the day, we did some good things. We’re still trying to figure out who’s best at what spot. It’s all about learning before we get to the conference schedule.”
Green Forest will be back in action Friday, Sept. 5, traveling to West Fork. Green Forest beat West Fork 12-0 in 2024, but Ewing said Green Forest will have to take care of business to get its first victory.
“I think it will be a competitive game,” he said. “I know they’re really low in numbers right now, but if we come out and don’t execute, we could be in a dogfight.”
