Tigers score 17 in one inning

Posted

Five or six runs is a big inning for a high school baseball team, but the Green Forest Tigers went way beyond that in a victory over Lead Hill on Monday, April 3.

Trailing 3-0 after an inning and a half, the Tigers scored 17 runs in the bottom of the second and went on to a 20-3 victory in three innings.

Green Forest’s big inning included six hits, five walks, two batters hit by pitch and six Lead Hill errors.

Green Forest had four extra-base hits in the second, starting with back-to-back RBI doubles by Tristin Burgess and Braden Epperly. After a walk, an error and a passed ball that allowed Epperly to score, Lead Hill committed its third error of the inning to let in another Green Forest run for a 4-3 lead.

Mason Meador followed with an RBI triple, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Bruegel.

Ridge Swofford singled, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on an error to make it 7-3.

After another error allowed Green Forest’s eighth run of the inning, Lead Hill recorded the second out. But Green Forest scored nine more runs from that point.

Brityn Gilliam’s two-run double made it 10-3 and Isaiah Fraga followed with an RBI single. After two walks, two more runs scored on another Lead Hill error. A walk loaded the bases and a hit batsman forced another run home and made it 14-3.

Green Forest’s final three runs scored on Lead Hill errors. Green Forest finished the game with nine hits, seven walks and four hit batters while Lead Hill committed seven errors to one by Green Forest.

Swofford had two hits, drove in three runs and scored twice. Fraga, Meador and Lyndon Surface scored three runs apiece while Fraga and Gilliam each had two RBI.

Bruegel was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out seven batters in three innings.

Green Forest lost at Berryville 13-2 on Thursday, April 6, then dropped a doubleheader at Lincoln on Friday, April 7, by scores of 19-9 and 13-2.

The Tigers hosted Valley Springs in a doubleheader on Monday. They’ll play Yellville-Summit at Yellville on Friday.
