Tigers regroup, focus on fundamentals

Posted

The Green Forest Tigers’ bye week came at a good time, coach Greg Tibbitt said last week.

After starting the season 0-2 with losses at home to West Fork and on the road at Greenland, the Tigers were ready for some time to regroup.

“We took the opportunity to kind of get back to some fundamentals and find some identity where we need it,” Tibbitt said.

Green Forest’s offense has moved the ball at times this season but has been stymied by penalties, turnovers and other mistakes.

In the 51-9 loss at Greenland, Tibbitt said, senior quarterback Isaiah Fraga completed 13 of 29 passes but the Tigers’ receivers dropped nine passes.

“You catch those, that’s 22 of 29,” Tibbitt said. “That’s a whole different ballgame. Just little things like that.”

Green Forest will be back in action Friday night, hosting Cedarville. The Pirates (1-1) are coming off a 36-6 victory at Mountainburg.

“They’re always going to be pretty good,” Tibbitt said. “They’re fundamentally sound.”

Friday’s kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
