Tigers record 1st victory

Posted

The Green Forest Tigers collected their first victory of the season Friday, Nov. 21, beating Reeds Spring, Mo., 4735 at the Grim Gym.

Green Forest led 2214 at halftime and went on to the victory. It’s the first win at Green Forest for first-year Tigers coach Ben McBryde.

“It was a gritty win,” McBryde said. “The team from Reeds Spring wasn’t the most skilled, but they were physical. Long, lanky. So for us to be able to maintain that, obviously, the whole game was nice, for sure.”

Junior Collin Atchison scored 13 points and classmate Grady Massengale added 11 for Green Forest (1-3).

McBryde said the Tigers were happy to get a win but even more pleased to see consistent progress.

“I think what’s more exciting for them is seeing improvement every game and feeling more comfortable seeing that what we’re trying to preach to them is working,” he said. “I think that’s exciting for them because I think they’re starting to feel like: ‘OK we can do this. What we’re being taught is right.’ They’re seeing the success of it.”

On Tuesday, Nov. 18, Green Forest lost at home to West Fork, 5242. Atchison scored 18 points and Massengale added 13.

Green Forest hosted Alpena on Monday, Nov. 24. The Tigers will play Haas Hall of Bentonville at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, in the first round of the Duel at the Dome tournament at West Fork, then play at Eureka Springs on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
