The Green Forest Tigers celebrated Senior Night in style on Tuesday, April 22, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead and then holding off Pea Ridge for a 9-7 victory.
The Blackhawks led 5-3 after scoring a single run in the top of the fifth, but Green Forest answered in the bottom of the inning. After Mason Meador drew a one-out walk and younger brother Jace Meador followed with a single, Ryne Stone hit a two-run double with two out to tie the score, then Brityn Gilliam followed with a two-run double of his own to put the Tigers up 7-5. Braden Epperly’s RBI single extended Green Forest’s lead to 8-5.
Pea Ridge scored twice in the top of the sixth to get within one at 8-7, but Radon Lawrence answered with an RBI single for Green Forest in the bottom of the inning and sophomore Colin Atchison struck out the final two Pea Ridge batters with two runners on base in the top of the seventh to finish off the victory.
Jace Meador had three hits for Green Forest, while Lawrence, Stone and Gilliam drove in two runs apiece.
Mason Meador pitched 4 1/3 hitless innings for the Tigers, giving up four unearned runs while striking out 10 batters and walking five before Atchison came on in relief.
The Tigers closed out the regular season with a 10-2 victory over Lead Hill on Friday, April 25, as Stone, Lawrence and Mason Meador drove in two runs apiece.
The Tigers took on Huntsville in the first round of the 4A-1 district tournament on Monday, April 28, at Gravette.
