After a 3-0 loss to Berryville in the final game of the 2021 football season, Green Forest coach Greg Tibbitt said his team needed to develop an offensive identity.
Fast forward eight months, and Tibbitt is feeling better about the Tigers’ offense heading into the 2022 season. The primary reason is the return of senior starting quarterback Isaiah Fraga.
“It’s Isaiah’s second year as quarterback,” Tibbitt said. “There’s a lot of growth there. Even though he was a junior, it was his first year as a starter last year. He’s had a good summer so far. He’s getting stronger, seeing the reads better. Throwing the football, 7-on-7 definitely helps that. … I think we are developing an identity. I think we’re finding ways to get guys the ball in the open field and throw the football. We’ve really focused a lot offensively this summer. We felt like our defense really kept us in a lot of games last year but we just couldn’t put points on the board at times and that’s really been a focal point.”
Entering his third season at Green Forest, Tibbitt said the Tigers have been working hard to get ready for the upcoming season, which starts Aug. 26 at home against West Fork.
“We’ve kind of had number issues, like most people,” Tibbitt said. “But we’ve been going three days a week.”
The Tigers participated in a 7-on-7 camp at Alma earlier this summer.
“We held our own,” Tibbitt said. “We played well against Springdale and Van Buren, beat Barton from south Arkansas and lost to Alma by two points. It was a good experience for our kids and they enjoyed it.” The Tigers have had the past couple of weeks off with the annual “dead period” mandated by the Arkansas Activities Association. This Thursday and Friday, they’ll participate in Shiloh Christian’s Southwest Elite 7-on-7 tournament in Springdale. “We’ll go up against the big boys again,” Tibbitt said. “That’s good experience.”
