Solid pitching and timely hitting made a winning combination for the Green Forest Tigers in a 5-3 victory over Berryville on Tuesday, March 12, at the Berryville Athletic Complex.
Isaac Kennedy’s two-run double in the top of the seventh broke a 3-3 tie and helped the Tigers get past their Carroll County rivals. Kennedy’s big hit backed up the pitching of Green Forest juniors Kasen Robinson and Mason Meador, who held Berryville to one hit while striking out a total of 17 Bobcat batters.
Despite being held to a single hit for the game, Berryville led 3-0 after three innings. All three Berryville runs scored on Green Forest errors with two out in the third inning. MT Tom scored the Bobcats’ first run on an error on a ground ball, then a misplay on Ashton Blok’s single allowed Cooper Summers and Titus Gregory to score.
Meador tripled leading off the top of the fourth inning and scored on a single by Kennedy.
The Tigers tied the score in the top of the sixth. Meador drew a leadoff walk and scored on a passed ball with two out. After a walk to Robinson, Kennedy also scored on a passed ball for a 3-3 tie.
Robinson pitched the first three innings for Green Forest, allowing three unearned runs on one hit while striking out seven batters and walking one. Meador came on in the fourth and pitched the final four innings, holding the Bobcats hitless and scoreless while striking out 10 batters and walking one.
Kennedy had two of Green Forest’s six hits while Meador scored two runs for the Tigers.
Gregory pitched the first five innings for Berryville, holding Green Forest to one run on five hits. He struck out 11 batters and did not issue a walk. Blok and Drew Dean each pitched an inning in relief for the Bobcats.
Green Forest lost a doubleheader at West Fork on Friday, March 15, by scores of 9-2 and 20-2. The Tigers will play in the Flippin Wood Bat Tournament beginning Thursday, March 21.
Berryville will be back in action Monday, March 25, hosting West Fork.
