Tigers fall to Gravette

The Green Forest Tigers face plenty of tough competition in the 4A-1 conference. Taking on those opponents is even more of a challenge without several key players.

Still decimated by injuries, the Tigers fell behind early and lost to Gravette 42-8 on Friday, Oct. 20, at Tiger Stadium.

“We’ve still got quite a few down, but they’re really good,” Green Forest coach Greg Tibbitt said. “They played really well Friday night and they’ve got a good football team.”

Gravette (5-3, 4-1 4A-1) scored three touchdowns in each of the first two quarters and led 42-0 at halftime.

Green Forest (26, 0-5) got a 4-yard touchdown run from junior Ridge Gordon- Swofford in the fourth quarter and added the two-point conversion on a keeper by junior quarterback Mason Meador.

Gordon-Swofford ran for 129 yards on 29 carries.

“Some of it was late, but he had a good night,” Tibbitt said.

Altogether, the Tigers finished with 179 yards rushing. Sophomore Gabe Serna ran for 51 yards on seven carries.

Tibbitt said Gravette may finish as high as second in the conference.

“They may end up as the two or three seed in our conference,” he said.

Green Forest will travel to Huntsville on Friday, Oct. 27, to take on a winless Eagles team. The Tigers will finish the season at home against Berryville in the annual Carroll County Super Bowl on Nov. 3.

“They’ve got a new coach, kind of changing systems,” Tibbitt said of Huntsville. “We hope we can win out these last two and finish on a positive note.”
