Tigers close regular season with losses to Elkins, Valley

The Green Forest Tigers lost their final two games of the 2023-24 regular season last week, losing at home to Elkins by a score of 58-29 on Tuesday, Feb. 6, and on the road at Valley Springs 70-41 on Friday, Feb. 9.

The Tigers struggled early in the loss to Elkins, falling behind 21-7 by halftime.

Senior Sebastian Holsted led Green Forest with 11 points while classmate Brayden Compton added 10 points and nine rebounds.

On Friday at Valley Springs, Green Forest trailed 20-5 after one quarter and 42-14 at halftime as Valley Springs made a total of 14 three-pointers for the game.

Holsted scored 12 points while senior Hesten Maybee added 10 points and also had four assists to bring his total for the season to more than 100. Maybee became the only Green Forest player in the past six seasons with more than 100 assists in a season.

Green Forest faced Flippin on Monday, Feb. 12, in a first-round game at the 3A-1 district tournament at Valley Springs.

Green Forest’s girls, who lost to Elkins 50-43 and to Valley Springs 55-29, also played in the district tournament Monday night, taking on West Fork.
