Storywalk to benefit BV library set June 4

Posted

Friends of the Berryville Library invite everyone to make plans to attend the second annual Storywalk from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 4, starting by the soccer fields at the Berryville Community Center.

This year’s Storywalk theme is 25,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Participants will choose the type of adventurer they want to be: pirate or merfolk. During the approximately 1-mile walk, participants will collect story cards at each of the three check-in/story aid stations along the way. Upon completion of the walk, participants can use the story cards they gathered to tell their own unique tall tale.

“This event is family-friendly, providing parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles the ability to do something fun with their children,” library director Julie Hall said. “This year we will even have Berryville’s own professional storyteller, Molly Sroges, at the finish line so people of all ages can listen to as many tall tales as they like all morning long!” The walk will begin and end on the grounds of the Berryville Community Center. Participants can drop in anytime from 8 a.m. to noon and go at their own pace. The event will be held rain or shine. Refreshments and first aid supplies will be available at each station.

Since this event is a fundraiser for the Berryville Library Building Project, participants are asked to solicit sponsors who will pledge money for the successful completion of the walk. There is no limit to the number of sponsors a participant may have. All walkers who complete the course will receive a sweet treat as a thank you for the participation. Walkers raising $30 or more in donations will earn a special, one-of-a-kind thank you gift from the Friends of the Berryville Library.

“We encourage participants to get as many sponsors as possible since all money collected will go to the Berryville Library Building Fund and help put us one step closer to our new library,” said Friends president Calvin Cleaver.

Registration can be done individually or as a family unit. Walkers under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Individual walkers under the age of 18 must have their registration form signed by a parent or guardian. Registration forms can be picked up at the library or downloaded at berryvillelibrary. org/Storywalk.

In addition to the Storywalk and storyteller, people of all ages will be able to register for the Summer Reading Program and participate in some fun, free activities. Those unable to attend or walk are still able to help raise money for the library by seeking sponsors and registering as a non-walker. For more information, contact the Berryville Library, 104 Spring St., Berryville, AR 72616. The library’s telephone number is 870-423-2323.
