Spring sports season underway for local teams

Springs sports season is underway, with local teams competing in boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball and track and field.

Green Forest Soccer

The Green Forest Tigers, who won the Class 3A state championship each of the past two seasons and three times in the past four years, went on the road to Harrison and defeated the Goblins 3-1 on Monday, March 3.

Green Forest’s girls lost to Harrison, 6-1.

Green Forest, which moved up to Class 4A, will play at Clarksville on Tuesday, March 11, before hosting Morrilton on Friday, March 15.

Berryville Soccer

Berryville’s boys soccer team defeated Life Way Christian 6-0 on Monday, March 3, then beat Lincoln 3-0 on Friday, March 7.

The Berryville girls lost to Life Way Christian 5-2.

Berryville will play at Dardanelle on Tuesday, March 11, and at Prairie Grove on Thursday, March 13.

Berryville Baseball

The Bobcats lost at Greenland 17-1 on Monday, March 3, and at Providence Acacemy 10-0 on Thursday, March 6. Senior Luke Dignan had two hits and scored a run against Greenland. Berryville will play at Elkins on Tuesday, March 11.

Green Forest Baseball

Green Forest defeated Norfork 11-1 on Monday, March 3, then lost at Greeland 25-1 on Wednesday, March 5. The Tigers hosted Huntsville on Thursday, March 6, losing 11-1.

Senior Mason Meador had a big game against Norfork, driving in five runs and striking out seven batters in 2 2/3 innings on the mound.

Green Forest will play in the West Fork tournament beginning Wednesday, March 12.

Green Forest Softball

The Lady Tigers softball team lost 20-11 at Harrison on Friday, March 7. Tay’sha Leudke drove in three runs for Green Forest, while Bella Phillips had two hits and scored two runs. Natalie Asbury drove in two runs for the Lady Tigers.

Green Forest will host Greenland on Tuesday, Nov. 11, then travel to West Fork on Thursday, March 13, before returning home to host Cotter on Friday, March 14.
