A special prosecutor last week charged Robert Kennedy, a former candidate for Carroll County sheriff, with a single felony count of terroristic threatening stemming from his arrest on April 25.
Kennedy was arrested after an altercation with his brother, a deputy sheriff, at their mother’s home on Carroll County Road 107 west of Eureka Springs.
Kennedy was booked into the Carroll County Detention Center on felony charges of terroristic threatening, residential burglary and second-degree battery as well as two misdemeanor counts of third-degree assault on a family or household member.
He was released May 1 on a $100,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear May 23 in Carroll County Circuit Court in Berryville, but that hearing was continued to June 6 because of a scheduling conflict with special prosecutor Jack McQuary.
Kennedy’s attorney, Cody Dowden of Bentonville, entered a plea of not guilty and waived arraignment on Kennedy’s behalf on May 25.
Kennedy finished last among five Republican sheriff candidates in the May 24 preferential primary. He received 143 votes, representing 3.28 percent of the ballots cast in the sheriff’s race.
