Several inches of snow are expected in Carroll County beginning Tuesday, Feb. 18, with temperatures below freezing through Friday, Feb. 21.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Tuesday and a separate Extreme Cold Watch that begins Tuesday and continues into Thursday.
The NWS forecast for Berryville calls for a chance of snow before 9 a.m. Tuesday, then snow possibly mixed with sleet. The chance for precipitation is 90 percent. Tuesday’s high temperature will be 26 degrees, according to the NWS forecast with wind gusts of up to 25 mph.
More snow is expected Tuesday night, with the weather service forecasting the chance of precipitation at 80 percent. The overnight low temperature is forecast at 7 degrees, with wind gusts continuing at up to 25 mph.
Carroll County is expected to receive five to eight inches of snow, according to the NWS.
Wednesday’s high temperature is expected to be around 18 degrees, with an overnight low Wednesday night of around minus-2. Wind gusts of up to 20 mph are expected.
Below-freezing temperatures continue on Thursday, with the high expected to be around 21 degrees. Winds around 5 mph are expcted. Thursday’s overnight low is forecast around 6 degrees, with winds calming in the evening.
Friday is expected to be warmer, with the high temperature around 30 degrees and calm winds. The overnight low is forecast at around 14 degrees before the forecast high tops the freezing mark on Saturday, Feb. 22, at around 41 degrees.
Both the Carroll County Quorum Court and the Berryville City Council are scheduled to meet Tuesday evening, with the quorum court meeting scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and the city council slated to meet at 6 p.m.
No announcement regarding rescheduling either meeting had been made by press time, which was moved ahead by 24 hours because of the forecast.
The schedule for this week’s 4A-1district basketball tournament in Huntsville has been revamped based on the forecast. The tournament was scheduled to begin Monday night, with Green Forest’s boys playing Prairie Grove at 5:20 p.m., the Green Forest girls facing Prairie Grove at 6:40 p.m. and Berryville’s boys taking on Gentry at 8 p.m.
Second-round games, originally slated for Tuesday night, will instead be played on Thursday, with semifinal games on Friday and the boys and girls finals set for Saturday.
Berryville’s girls are scheduled to play a second-round game at 6:40 p.m. Thursday against the winner of Monday night’s Green Forest-Prairie Grove matchup.
