She’s just a freshman, but that isn’t slowing Berryville’s Kaylyn Smith down.
Smith had a big day at the 4A-1 district track and field championships on Monday, April 24, at Gravette. She won the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:03.34 and also took second in the triple jump, fifth in the 200-meter dash and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles.
Berryville’s Bella Knapp took fourth in the 3,200-meter run. Teammate Hailey Howerton was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles. Kynadee Hopper was sixth in the high jump and 14th in the 100-meter dash. Ella Miller took seventh place in the shot put and 12th in the discus. Chany Fairweather finished ninth in the 400-meter dash, 10th in the triple jump and 20th in the 200-meter dash. Codi Joubert was 10th in the 100-meter dash and 21st in the 200. Sophee Bartos was 10th in the discus, 13th in the shot put and 14th in the 3,200-meter run.
Astralia Amos was 11th in the 3,200-meter run and 13th in the 800. Tessa Parton finished 11th in the 1,600-meter run. Tessa Johnson took 11th place in the high jump and Ivie Bickel was 11th in the discus and 12th in the shot put. Catherine Paz finished 12th in the triple jump.
Cara Summers finished 13th in the 100-meter dash and 14th in the 200. Lizzeth Gomez took 13th place in the 3,200-meter run. Laney Wambold was 17th in the 800.
On the boys side, Berryville’s Malachi Houghton finished third in the 1,600-meter run and fourth in the 3,200. Oliver Beamis took eighth place in the 110-meter hurdles and ninth in the 300-meter hurdles. Tun Oo was eighth in the shot put and 12th in the 100-meter dash.
Robby Bartos finished ninth in the 3,200-meter run and 14th in the 1,600. Noah Haughton took 10th in the 110-meter hurdles and 11th in the 300-meter hurdles. Asher Ross was 10th in the 3,200-meter run and 12th in the 1,600. Gabriel Wall finished 16th in the 300-meter hurdles with teammate Nathan Ross one spot back in 17th.
Wesley Winter finished 18th in the shot put while Kale Smith was 19th in the 100-meter dash and Valentin Trujillo was 19th in the 400.
Carlos Barrios was 23rd in the 200-meter dash and 28th in the 100 while teammate Alex Esparza was 26th in the 100.
Berryville finished fourth in the girls team standings and eighth on the boys side.
Smith qualified to compete in the 400-meter dash and the triple jump at Tuesday’s Class 4A state championships in Clarksville. Other state qualifiers for Berryvile were the girls 4x800 relay team of Knapp, Parton, Amos and Wambold; Malachi Houghton in the boys 1,600 and the boys 4x800 relay team of Malachi Houghton, Noah Houghton, Asher Ross and Oliver Beamis.
