The Berryville Lady Bobcats made just enough runs to get past Crane, Mo., 47-43 in the first round of the 14th Annual CS Bank Holiday Hoops Classic on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Bobcat Arena.
The Lady Bobcats trailed by nine points in the first quarter, but closed out the quarter with seven consecutive points and then started the second period with a 10-3 run to take a 2217 lead.
Berryville opened the third quarter with an 8-3 spurt to extend its lead to 11 at 33-22. After Crane cut the margin to four at 3531, Berryville got one free throw from junior Sophie Bartos and two from sophomore Paige Thurman to make it 38-31, then grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed free throw and Thurman converted a driving layup for a 40-31 Berryville lead at the end of the third quarter.
Crane answered again, trimming Berryville’s advantage to three at 44-41 before sophomore Ella Miller scored on a putback and junior Taelor Tomlinson hit a free throw with 15.5 seconds left in the game for a sixpoint advantage.
Four Berryville players scored at least seven points, led by 13 from Thurman. Sophomore Hailey Howerton scored all nine of her points in the first half, while Miller had seven of her nine points in the second half. Tomlinson added seven points for the Lady Bobcats.
BERGMAN 61, BERRYVILLE 32
Bergman scored the game’s first 19 points and went on to beat Berryville in a second- round game on Thursday, Dec. 28.
Taelor Tomlinson and Kaylyn Smith scored six points apiece for Berryville.
CLINTON 59, BERRYVILLE 45
Clinton outscored Berryville 21-8 in the first quarter and went on to beat the Lady Bobcats in the thirdplace game on Friday, Dec. 29. Sophomore Kaylyn Smith scored 25 points for Berryville.
