Saunders Museum ready for Saturday opening

Posted

The Saunders Museum will open for the 2023 season on Saturday, April 15, and Berryville City Council member Linda Riddlesperger says the building is ready.

“We got our power washing done and the building looks so much better,” Riddlesperger said at the city council’s April 4 meeting. “We’ve got almost all the cleaning done. Our telephone’s been out. We got it fixed today. … I think we’re about to get there.”

Riddlesperger said the museum’s internet connection had stopped working and it was discovered that a squirrel had chewed the cable.

“Did you catch the squirrel in the attic?” Mayor Tim McKinney asked.

“We put a trap in there today,” Riddlesperger said.

The council also reviewed an amended schedule for the city’s 2023 spring cleanup (Story on Page 2), with mayoral assistant Jay Lee explaining that the only change is an earlier start for pickup of bundled limbs and bagged leaves because of recent storms.

“If you see them out early, don’t panic,” McKinney said. “They’re going to get to everybody.”

In other business, the council unanimously approved a request by Gary Gunn to perform as a one-man band on the Berryville Public Square on Fridays or Saturdays through December. Gunn’s application says he will use music to talk about Jesus.

The council also unanimously approved a request from Kaylan Ellis of Berryville Elementary School to hold a fishing derby for summer school students from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, June 6, at George Pond.

The Berryville City Council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at City Hall.
