The hits just keep on coming for Green Forest’s Lydia Russell.
Competing on her home track, the Lady Tigers sophomore won four events at the 3A-1 district track and field championships on Wednesday, April 26, setting a pair of school records in the process.
Russell won both the 100-meter hurdles (17.02 seconds) and the 300-meter hurdles (48.66) as well as the long jump (15 feet, 6 inches) and the triple jump (339.5). Her school records came in the 300 hurdles and the triple jump.
Russell finished second in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash on the way to earning individual high-point honors.
Green Forest’s Haddasah Reyes finished second in the discus and eighth in the shot put and took ninth place in the 800-meter run. The Lady Tigers’ Carmen Garcia was fourth in the 3,200-meter run and sixth in the 1,600. Emily Sales took fifth place in the 3,200 and seventh in the 1,600. Elena Quiroz was eighth in both the 800 and 3,200-meter runs.
Yamliet Cifuentes finished eighth in the discus and 11th in the shot put, while Gabriela Serrano was ninth in both the 400-meter dash and the 1,600-meter run.
Claudia Mendoza took 10th place in the shot put and 15th in the discus.
Heidy Delgago finished 10th in the discus and Gabriela Lopez- Tzoc was 18th in the shot put.
On the boys side, Green Forest senior Alonzo Rangel won both the 1,600- and 3,200 meter runs in times of 5:00.53 and 11:01.52, respectively. Rangel finished fourth in the 800-meter run.
Jason Lopez won the discus (121-3) and finished second in the shot put.
Jay Pope won the pole vault (9-6) and finished ninth in the 110-meter hurdles, 10th in the 200-meter dash, 11th in the 300-meter hurdles and 13th in the long jump.
Anthony Gonzalez finished second in the high jump, sixth in the 100-meter dash and ninth in the 200.
Lucas Maloney took second place in the pole vault and 10th in the triple jump.
Arauny Reyes was two spots behind Rangel in the 1,600, taking third place. Reyes also finished fifth in the long jump, seventh in the triple jump and 11th in the 400-meter dash. Elvin Montoya was third in the 800-meter run.
Gabe Serna finished third in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles, seventh in the 100-meter dash and 11th in the long jump.
Ali Cabrera was fourth in the pole vault, eighth in the 200 and 11th in the 100.
Joseph Duenas finished fourth in the 3,200-meter run, seventh in the 1,600 and 15th in the 800.
Joel Salgado was fourth in the shot put. Fernando Gonzalez took sixth place in the discus.
Jadon Ochoa finished seventh in the 400-meter dash. Justin Ayala was ninth in the 300-meter hurdles and the triple jump, 10th in the long jump and 12th in the high jump.
Jesus Romero took ninth place in the shot put. Jaaz Pope was one spot behind in 10th place. Carlos Lemus was 10th in the discus.
Isaac Flores finished 12th in the 400-meter dash.
Brandon Lopez-Tzoc was 15th in the 200-meter dash. Luis Bathen finished 16th in the discus and Sergio Martinez was 17th in the 800-meter run.
Green Forest set a school record in the 4x200-meter relay, taking third place in a time of 1:45.24 with Ochoa, Christian Perez, Ayala and Flores each running a leg. Green Forest took second place in the other three relays — 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800.
The Tigers finished second in the boys team standings, while Green Forest’s girls were fourth.
Russell qualified to compete in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, the long jump, the triple jump and the 100-meter dash at Tuesday’s Class 3A state championships in Prescott. Haddasah Reyes qualified in the discus.
On the boys side, Rangel qualified for state in the 1,600 and 3,200. Lopez qualified in the discus and shot put. Gonzalez qualified in the high jump and both Jay Pope and Maloney qualified in the pole vault.
The Green Forest boys also qualified in the 4x100 (Serna, Cabrera, Jay Pope, Tony Gonzalez); 4x400 (Montoya, Tony Gonzalez, Cabrera, Arauny Reyes); and 4x800 (Montoya, Duenas, Arauny Reyes and Martinez) relays.
