The Carroll County Quorum Court, which has held most of its meetings at Southern Heights Baptist Church in Berryville since early in the COVID-19 pandemic, will be returning to to its traditional venue.
In a special meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 3, the court voted to hold its meetings for the next two years at 5 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in the courtroom of the county’s Eastern District Courthouse in Berryville.
For the past several years, the court’s regular meeting has been held on the third Monday of each month. That sometimes caused issues when circuit court sessions, also held on Mondays, ran long and the courtroom was unavailable. It also made for long days for the Carroll County prosecuting attorney’s office, which has a representative on hand at each regular meeting of the quorum court to provide legal advice.
The Jan. 3 meeting was the first for three new justices of the peace: District 2 JP Bruce Wright, District 4 JP Hunter Rivett and District 10 JP Jerry King.
The District 8 seat formerly held by Don McNeely will be filled by gubernatorial appointment.
The quorum court’s first regular meeting of 2023 will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, in the courtroom of the Eastern District Courthouse in Berryville.
