Quorum Court hears update from Extension office

The Carroll County Quorum Court heard an update at its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15, from the Carroll County office of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service.

Extension agents Torrie Smith and Monty Rexwinkle told quorum members about the services and activities provided through the local office. Smith, the staff chair and family consumer sciences agent, discussed the local office’s SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programming) education as well as the county’s four Extension Homemakers Clubs.

Rexwinkle, the local agriculture agent, discussed the resurgence of the local Master amending the qualifications of Carroll County Library Board members;

• the first reading of an ordinance authorizing the county judge and circuit clerk to enter into an agreement with the Department of Finance and Administration and delegating the responsibility for the collection of delinquent circuit court fines,

Gardeners program as well as the success of local 4-H clubs. Rexwinkle’s son, Andrew, and daughter, Katelyn both spoke to the quorum court about the benefits of their experience in 4-H.

In other business, the quorum court approved:

• a resolution to accept a $5,000 grant for the juvenile probation staff training;

• the first reading of an ordinance fees and court costs;

• an ordinance establishing a County General Unique Fund to be called County Sheriff Leased Vehicles Fund, to appropriate funds and to declare an emergency;

• and a supplemental appropriation ordinance appropriating funds to repair damage to fencing at the Carroll County Airport.
