The Green Forest Tigers didn’t beat the Gentry Pioneers last week, but it wasn’t for lack of effort.
Gentry defeated Green Forest 44-9 on Friday, Oct. 10, at Tiger Stadium. Despite the score, Green Forest coach Dalton Ewing was pleased that his team fought to the end even after falling behind 29-0 midway through the second quarter.
“We could have easily just shut it down and quit, and we didn’t,” Ewing said.
Instead, the Tigers (2-4, 0-3 4A-1) answered with a 41-yard field goal from sophomore kicker Abisai Reyes to get within 29-3 at halftime and then added their only touchdown on a keeper by sophomore quarterback Hadley Maybee.
This week, Green Forest travels to Lincoln. The Wolves (2-4, 0-3) are coming off an 83-6 loss at Elkins and have been outscored 177-19 in three conference games. Green Forest defeated Lincoln 30-6 last season.
“We’re excited to play Lincoln and see what we can do,” Ewing said.
